DENNIS SCARD has special knowledge and experience in Industrial Relations and was re‑appointed to the Board in 2006 and elected as Chairman in 2007. He is also a Director of Sussex Port Forwarding Limited. Prior to moving to East Sussex he was General Secretary of the Musician’s Union and a member of the TUC General Council, a position he held for ten years. He currently acts as a consultant specialising in HR and Employment Law. He is a panel member of the DTI’s Central Arbitration Committee and the Employment Tribunal Service. He is a Board Member of Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and is involved in a number of other National Arts Organisations.

JIM MAY was appointed to the Board in 2006 and was elected Deputy Chairman in 2007. He is Chairman of the Port Authority’s Audit Committee. He has a banking background and recently retired as an Executive of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. He was latterly responsible for running the RBS and NatWest commercial business in the South of England and South Wales. He lives in Brighton and has many links with the local community, having spent a spell as a Brighton Councillor. He is Treasurer of Sussex County Cricket Club and a Non-Executive Director of Brighton & Hove City Primary Care Trust.

| Harry Loomes |

HARRY LOOMES was appointed to the Board in July 2007. He has spent his entire working life in public sector finance. He retired in July 2007 from the post of Head of Financial Services at Adur District Council where he had worked since local government reorganisation in 1974. He is currently working as a public sector finance consultant. He was born in Sussex and has lived in Worthing since 1972.

DEREK COPEMAN was appointed to the Board in 2004, where he represents the leisure sector. He is a chartered architect and is the principal of his own architectural practice specialising in housing, urban regeneration and leisure developments. He has a keen interest in sailing and water-based activities and was elected as Vice Commodore of Sussex Yacht Club in 2005. He holds a yacht master qualification and a private pilot’s licence. He has recently relocated his practice to Sussex and now lives and works in the Shoreham area and has many links with both Adur District and Brighton and Hove.

JAMES FANSHAWE CBE RN was appointed to the Board in 2006. He retired from the Royal Navy in 2005 after 35 years’ service, during which he commanded HMS Hurworth, Cleopatra, Fearless, the United Kingdom Task Group and the Devonport Flotilla. He is now working as an independent consultant in various fields, including defence, software, engineering and property. He is a Member of the Nautical Institute and the Institute of Directors, and was appointed CBE in the New Year’s Honours 2004 for services to the Royal Navy. He lives near Chichester.

BRIAN BLUNDELL was reappointed to the Board in 2004 and has knowledge and experience relating to the Port User Group. He has been a Board Member since 1996. He is also Director of Sussex Port Forwarding Limited and was appointed Chairman of the company in June 2006. Until his retirement he was Sussex Area Manager of a resident international aggregate company. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and worked in and around Shoreham Port for some thirty years. He lives on the Shoreham/Southwick border.

FIONA MORRIS was appointed to the Board in January 2006. She was also made a Director of Sussex Port Forwarding Limited in May 2006 and joined the Port Authority’s Remuneration Committee and Audit Committee in January 2007. She worked for Guardian Newspapers Limited for many years holding senior management positions including Business Projects Director, Production Director and Managing Director of Guardian Press Centre. She is currently a Trustee of The Printers’ Charitable Corporation. She has lived in Brighton since 1993.

JOHN RODWAY was appointed to the Board in 2004 and was Chairman of the Audit Committee during 2006. He is a former Sussex Police Officer and at present is the Corporate and Public Safety Manager with Adur District Council. He is a company director specialising in Risk Management. A Registered Risk Practitioner, John is a Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Managers, the Institute of Management and the Emergency Planning Society. He advises the Board on matters relating to The Civil Contingencies Act, including emergency plans and preparedness, and also supports the Board on Health and Safety matters.

DON TURNER was appointed to the Board in July 2007. His business background was in sales and technical support, mainly in the ventilation industry. He is a Portslade resident and represented Portslade as an elected Councillor for 22 years, serving on both East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council. Much of his work was concentrated on regeneration and economic development at local, regional and European levels. Don was Deputy Chairman of the South East England Regional Assembly, Chairman of the Regional Refugee and Asylum Seekers Consortium, and a member of the Regional Housing Board. He also serves as a Trustee of a small local charity.
